Art of the territory

Several Romans ruins are spread across the entire territory of Marche. Examples are the cities of Ascoli, Fermo, Falerone, Urbisaglia, Helvia Ricina or the arch of Traiano in Ancona and arch of August in Fano.

The romanic building activity (XI/XIII century) was intense. The most important churches, where are visible the fusion between bizantinums and lombards elements, are: S. Ciriaco di Ancona, S. Maria di Portonovo presso Ancona, il Duomo e la pieve di S. Leo, il battistero di Ascoli.

The Gothic period (XIII/XV century)  is predominantely dominated by venetian influence. Between the gothic buildings we have to spot out S. Nicola di Tolentino, which preserve a wide range of frescos and the works of Giorgio Orsini da Sebenico in Ancona.
